So, you’ve decided that this is the year you will be making an attempt to gradually substitute your children’s regular snacks with some healthier, more nutritious alternatives while creating a much “cleaner” lunch box for them (and ourselves for that matter).  Well, how about starting off with this scrumptious, all purpose, protein packed spread which we all love to love.

Apart from being absolutely delicious, peanut butter is a great energy booster packed with protein and extremely rich in mono-unsaturated fats.  According to a study in the journal Obesity, it found that participants who ate nuts or peanut butter at least twice a week were 31% less likely to gain weight than participants who did not eat peanut butter or nuts.

So combine this Home Made Peanut Butter Spread with a few slices of your favourite fruit, banana being a common favourite,  or maybe even some natural carob honey or a bunch of fresh vegetables sticks and there you have it, a well rounded breakfast or sandwich for everyone’s recess snack. The fact that this peanut butter is home made simply makes it a just little more perfect and is so easy to make.

300 grams of unsalted and lightly roasted peanuts
1 tsp. of coconut oil
1 pinch of salt (optional)
Add some cinnamon or blossom honey as a luxury touch

1. Add all the ingredients in the bowl of a food processor.
2. Process for 6-8 minutes or until it gets soft enough to spread.
3. Place in a 300 grams jar and refrigerate.
4. Spread it on a fresh slice of  Zea bread,  or any other bread of your choice and enjoy it in the mornings, before or after exercise, or any other time you like.
